The Jesse Tree is an Advent tradition, on the tenth day we place the Horn for Joshua ornament.
Advent is observed during the 28 days before the birth of Jesus Christ. In Western Christianity it is the beginning of our Liturgical year. We experience Advent as a time of expectant waiting and preparation for both the celebration of the Nativity of Christ at Christmas and the return of Christ at the Second Coming. The Jesse Tree takes us through the many people that make up the family tree of Jesus and illustrates the specific stories that led up to His birth. It is a beautiful way to create a tradition for your family and hand making the ornaments and then placing them on a bare twig tree is the traditional way of doing that.
I found an amazing resource for creating your own Jesse Tree Tradition through Jesse Tree Treasures. My own growing up was made from a tree branch and homemade ornaments. You can purchase the ornaments here:

The readings for the Tenth Day of Advent are Joshua 6:1-27.
