Saints Series: St. Oscar Romero 1917-1980

Hey my Sweet Lifers! I hope you enjoy this new series and find some inspiration for your own walk in and with Christ Jesus. In this 3rd installment of our Saints Series we are discussing Oscar Romero. You can watch the Sweet Life in Christ™ episode with Father Andrew here: https://youtu.be/ycIMWKzUhyo

Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez was a prelate of the Catholic Church in El Salvador. He served as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of San Salvador, the Titular Bishop of Tambeae, as Bishop of Santiago de María, and finally as the fourth Archbishop of San Salvador. (Wikipedia) Born August 15, 1917 and assassinated March 24, 1980. His outspoken conviction against violence ensued by the government, right -wing groups and leftist guerrillas ultimately lead to his assassination. He hosted a weekly radio broadcast calling out the activities of these groups. The miracle that occurred necessary for sainthood was that a Salvadoran man prayed for his wife that was in a coma after giving birth. After asking in a prayer to Romero for his help, his wife survived. In his earthly walk in imitation of our Savior, he chose to be a voice for the voiceless and stand up for the oppressed. His voice hearkened a warning for society and his preaching and life reflected peace, justice, and social solidarity. Some of his famous quotes are : “Peace is not the product of terror or fear. Peace is not the silence of cemeteries. Peace is not the silent result of violent repression.” “I am bound, as a pastor, by divine command to give my life for those whom I love, and that is all Salvadoreans, even those who are going to kill me.” “We plant the seeds that one day will grow.” “The Church must suffer for speaking the truth, for pointing out sin, for uprooting sin.” “Each one of you has to be God’s microphone. Each one of you has to be a messenger, a prophet.” “Beautiful is the moment in which we understand that we are no more than an instrument of God; we live only as long as God wants us to live; we can only do as much as God makes us able to do; we are only as intelligent as God would have us be.” “Aspire not to have more, but to be more.” He is an inspiration for us all!
