Living the Sweet Life : A “Change” in You? Here’s what to do! January 2016

Alisa Murray and Dr. Fredrick Brown If you know a woman or are one then when I say the word menopause several things should come to mind. Night sweats, hot flashes..mood swings, insomnia. Like the veritable “Lions and Tigers and Bears..OH MY!” this time of life is indeed a special one.

I have written more than once about the subject and have tried a bunch of creams, pills and what nots not only from medically trained doctors but from the aisles of cures for what ails you at our local super market and up until I met Dr. Fredrick Brown I gotta tell you not much helped.

My own Father, an OBGYN used to treat patients with pills and then about the time he retired there was a few years of him using hormones. His partner Gary Jewel and I have talked at length about menopause and how to treat women during this transition. Facts are that there has not been a history of studying menopause much and where there has been focus it has been more on alleviating the symptoms and not tackling the long term side effects of what treatments might aggravate in the future of the patient. In other words, let’s take a pill and then 15 years later we find that synthetic hormone can be linked to a high risk of cancer. Not cool, folks…not cool at all. So you can imagine I have been searching for a better way to manage through and two years ago I met Dr. Fredrick Brown who everybody calls “Dr.B.”
Now his approach as a physician is through treating the whole patient and not just one symptom and he has built a successful practice through doing what my Daddy did which was to listen. Each patient is different and therefore there is no cookie cutter approach to treating and caring for him or her. It is through building a relationship with his patients that he seeks to find the root of a problem and a solution that works specifically for that individual.
He is old school in his approach to medicine, taking the time to actually discuss and ask questions and the experience of being a patient is more akin to talking with a knowledgable friend. He gets it that not everybody wants to be given a pill and sent home; which makes his approach to care responsible and refreshing.
His solution to menopause and low testosterone is through Bio-Te a naturally occurring hormone administered through a pellet via a small incision. The hormones are time released and through specified blood checks he can determine exactly the custom dose for each patients needs.

“Hormone Replacements have been used since 1939 and pellet implants were popular up until I was born and in the 70’s they kinda waned in use because oral pills replaced them. “Hormone Pellets identical to our own hormones cannot be patented, so they have been ignored by the major pharmaceutical firms. Pellets deliver a consistent level of hormones which the body can access as needed and they out perform oral, patch and creams with fewer side effects.” I have been “pelleted” for two years now and I have virtually no symptoms of menopause. I have better energy and sex drive and mental clarity. Menopause effects the entire family because we as mothers and wives are the primary caregivers to our families. When we are not at our maximum in well being then it is virtually impossible to give fully to those we love. I am thrilled with my results and encourage anyone who is struggling with this “change” to see Dr. B. I am sure you will feel better, find a friend in his approach and be on your way to feeling like your old self in no time!
